FREMONT-WINEMA NATIONAL FOREST
  Ninemile North Sale: This sale is the second to be proposed in the Klamath Basin under the president's new Healthy Forest Restoration Act. The area is important to the Klamath Tribe, and contains winter range habitat for the mule deer, and occasional elk herds. 9,027 acres are proposed for thinning of trees up to 21" in diameter, with 3,335 acres of small fuels reduction and underburning. This project was developed by the Klamath Tribes and US Forest Service.

Barnes Valley Long Branch Photo   Barnes Valley - Long Branch Thin: The Forest Service wants to do a restoration sale in the Barnes Creek and Long Branch Watersheds. The proposal calls for 2,757 acres of thinning up to 20"dbh, 5,827 acres of non-commercial thinning, 5,346 acres of juniper thinning, and 15,000 acres of prescribed fire. This area contains 2 Bald Eagle Management Areas(BEMA's), 3 Northern Goshawk territories, and Pileated Woodpecker habitat.

Toolbox Fire Salvage Sale   Toolbox Fire Salvage Sale: The toolbox fire started on July 12, 2002 and burned over 85,000 acres. Over 14,441 acres could be logged using a combination of helicopter, cable and tractor logging in 312 units. The BLM recently salvage logged trees up to 4 feet in diameter. The area contains thousands of old growth trees, and is home to the American Marten, Northern Goshawk, Bald Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, and Rocky Mtn Elk.
