Westpoint: High above the Scott River, an important steelhead, chinook and coho salmon refuge; the Forest Service proposes to log over 930 acres, some of it amongst steep granatic terrains. Cable and Helicopter logging could be used to remove large trees, and habitat for the Pacific Fisher and Northern Spotted Owl. This timber sale is also close to the newly discovered Scott Bar Salamander, a species found only in this part of the Klamath River Drainage. MENU, IMAGES |

Mt. Ashland LSR Thin: Located mostly on the California side of the Siskiyou Crest, this high elevation Late Successional Reserve is home to many important species such as the Northern Spotted Owl and Northern
Goshawk. The Forest Service is looking at doing some habitat restoration projects, and thinning projects including fuelbreaks in adjacent subwatersheds. This watershed has been heavily logged in the lower elevations, but contains the best habitat up in the Late Successional Reserve. MENU, PHOTOS, ALERT, PLANS, COMMENTS |

Horse Heli Timber Sale: This area contains a wonderland of high elevation natural meadows, springs, deeply wooded glades of hemlock and red-fir trees, and fields of flowers. Located along the base of the Condrey Mountain Roadless Area and Siskiyou Crest, this timber sale proposes to log over 1,680 acres, and clearcutt 420 acres of older cedar and fir forests, much of it on steep slopes. Logging here could harm the Northern Spotted
Owl, Northern Goshawk and Pine Marten. MENU, PHOTOS, PLANS |

Elk Thin: The Happy Camp Ranger District of the Klamath National Forest is proposing the 358-acre Elk Thin timber sale. The Elk Creek watershed is already fragmented from past logging and roadbuilding activities, and it is designated a "key watershed" for salmon recovery. Of the 358 acres proposed for thinning, 188 acres would be helicopter logged, 149 acres would be cable logged, and 21 acres would be tractor logged.

MIS Species Review: The Forest Service was supposed to have been monitoring the impacts of logging, grazing and roadbuilding on over 50 wildlife species; including mammals, birds, frogs turtles, and fish. Now the Forest Service wants to substantially reduce the list of Management Indicator Species (MIS) down to only 5 species; 3 trees and 2 bird species. They claim it costs too much, and is unnecessary - we claim otherwise!! MENU, PLANS |
