MODOC NATIONAL FOREST

Cedar Pass:The Cedar Pass Project lies at the crest of the Warner Mountain Range along the summit of State Route 299. At over 6,000 feet, it is home to several goshawk territories, the pine marten, high elevation meadows, and beautiful old growth fir stands. The Forest Service is proposing to remove bug- killed trees up to 30" in diameter on over 520 acres, and improve aspen habitat. Several of the proposed units are inside the Cedar Pass Ski Area, a popular winter recreation area, and summer hiking trailhead.

The Forest Service is planning to thin 500 acres of conifers from 3 to 21 inches in diameter, to open up the canopy for Bald Eagles. Most of the sale is a fuels reduction project with over 1,055 acres of juniper thinning, and 1,000 acres of underburning.
