Pilgrim Thin: "Saying they want to nourish ailing forests, federal land managers are planning a large timber sale that could produce more wood than some national forests harvest in an entire year." (Mt
Shasta Herald, 02/22/05). The Pilgrim sale plans to log 3,770 acres, and up to 30 million board feet in stands with old growth trees up to 48" in diameter. The sale proposal includes biomass, thinning in plantations, thinning around aspen, salvage logging of insect killed trees, and thinning in old growth stands. Powder Thin: This project area is within one of the richest collection of wild lava cave systems in Northern California. The Forest Service is planning to thin over 2,800 acres, some of it amongst isolated stands of old growth trees that have so far been protected by the rocky lava outcroppings. The area is home to many bat, woodpecker and owl species and contains many interesting wildflower and plant communities. MENU, PHOTOS, PLANS, COMMENTS, APPEAL, LAWSUIT, PRESS |
