The
Klamath Forest Alliance is committed to ensuring that all the voices in our community are heard; even the ones who are voiceless, and hate, extremeist groups and political influence are not used to silence our views. As rural activists, our organization and members are sometimes the target of hate related crimes. We are working directly with the tribes, and local peace and human rights groups to educate, and dispel many of the myths created by the hard right that frame loggers and farmers against environmentalists, and allow discrimination against tribal and non-tribal community members.
Siskiyou County For over 15 years, KFA has witnessed a colorful array of anti-environmental efforts in Siskiyou County, including organized attempts to stop new wilderness designations, critical habitat for Coho Salmon, roadless area conservation, wolf introduction, and the establishment of the Cascade Siskiyou National Monument. We have worked tirelessly to counter propaganda from the Pioneer Press Newspaper, People For The USA, Klamath Alliance for Resources and the Environment, Citizens Interactive United, Blue Ribbon Coalition, Siskiyou County Farm Bureau and sometimes members of the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors, and Representative Wally Herger.
Klamath County In a democracy, the victims are often the silent ones. Since the early 1990's, KFA has been a leader in advocating for the return of a healthy fishery along the banks of the Klamath River, and throughout the Klamath Basin. We have worked continuously at representing downstream interests including fisherman, rafters, cabin owners, tribal communities and an array of sensitive, rare and endangered species.
The 2001 headgates closure, and 2002 fish kill along the Klamath River, created a hostile environment between the farmers, tribes and our environmental community. Since 2003, we have been working locally in Klamath Falls to build a coalition of peace groups, and human dignity organizations to provide education and speak out against hate crimes. Although we recognize that development and globalization are the greatest threat to agriculture, we continue to address propaganda from basin groups such as the Klamath Basin Crisis Site, Water For Life, Klamath Bucket Brigade, and Representatives Walden, Doolittle and Pombo. |
